A pickleback is traditionally where a shot of bourbon is chased by a shot of pickle juice, which removes the whisky bite straight away.
In our instance, this is a shot of Dima’s Vodka followed a shot of pickle juice. The pickle juice, similar to its parent the pickle, adds a lovely salinity contrasting with the vodka’s flavours.
Pickle juice, on its own is also a magical thing, in that it helps replenish electrolytes while also giving a nice acidic kick when used in some of the cocktails in this book. Don’t forget that you can use your own pickle brine instead of purchased pickle juice and you can trial different pickle brine flavours and blends to find your perfect pickleback.
